My first sell-out collection!
Share
Wow — I still can’t quite believe it. My first sell-out collection! I’ve been sitting with this feeling for a few days now, trying to put into words just how much it all means to me. So here goes — a little story behind Playtime, the collection that sold out and filled my heart to the brim.
Since the start of the year, I’ve felt this bubbling surge of creativity. January came with that fresh-start energy, and honestly, it hit me hard (in the best way). My mind has been bursting with ideas — sketchbooks full, scraps of paper with scribbles, notes on my phone at 2am. Something about this year felt different, like a page had turned and I was finally ready to pour everything out.
In the middle of all this creative chaos, I found myself going back. Back to some of my old illustration work — drawings I’d long dismissed as “not good enough” or “just uni stuff.” But this time, I looked at them with new eyes. And I realised: those drawings were always part of me. They weren't meaningless — they were the seeds. All along, they’d been paving the way to where I am now. That realisation was a turning point.
I also dove headfirst into books — lots of them — for inspiration and research. Pages full of colours, compositions, and especially contrasts. I started to see colour differently, noticing how unexpected pairings could create real magic. And then I thought: why not pair this colour obsession with my long-time love for pattern? That combo felt so right, so me.
And of course, I couldn’t resist playing around with form. I’ve been really enjoying working with unconventional handle shapes, trying to break out of the usual handle 'norm' — and that’s how the ball-handle came to life. A tiny, joyful rebellion against the expected.
All of this led to Playtime. A collection that feels like pure joy, like my inner child was given free rein in the studio. Inspired by the things that brought me happiness as a kid — colouring in, fizzy sweets, silly games, and just that feeling of fun — Playtime is my ode to colour, play, and letting go.
In this collection, you’ll find hand-painted mugs, vases, and clocks — each piece unique, vibrant, and a little bit cheeky. I also introduced my new ‘Bubble’ vases — my biggest pieces yet — using fun, speckled, bright glazes that make them feel like they’ve jumped straight out of a picture book and into your home.
And then came the markets. I brought Playtime to a few recent makers markets, slightly nervous but hopeful, using them as an opportunity to test the waters and see how people feel about the new products. I wasn’t prepared for what happened next. The response was incredible. So many kind words, excited faces, and thoughtful chats — and before I knew it, every single piece had sold. I couldn’t stop smiling. The most common thing people said? “This feels like you.” And it really does.
After years of experimenting, doubting, trying new things, and circling back — it feels like I’ve finally found my way. This collection reminded me that every step (even the ones that felt like missteps) mattered. And selling out? That’s just the cherry on top.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you to everyone who’s supported me, bought a piece, shared kind words, or simply stopped by to say hi. I’m beyond grateful — and I can’t wait to keep creating.
Here’s to colour, joy, and following the fun.
Now to get restocking!
With love,
Heather ☺️👋🏼
